Up and coming stylist (Veronica Johnson) has always had a unique sense of fashion. Her creative talents are currently being utilised by a number of models, actors and musicians. 2014 promises to be a great year for brand ‘Vero Fashion’, as she builds her burgeoning portfolio. We sat down together as she shared some of her thoughts with us.
Here’s how it went down…
How would you best describe your personal style?
‘I would say my style is very Urban or Street. I get a lot of my inspiration from men’s wear, adding my personal touch to accentuate its femininity. More recently, I’ve fallen in love with the whole formal look. It’s just so slick and clean!’
Do you have a Nigerian name? If so, what does it mean when translated into English?
‘Of course I do *smiles* ‘Olamide’, which means ‘Wealth has come’’
Who’s style are are you inspired by?
‘Victoria Beckham’
What’s your opinion on the current state of Nigerian fashion?
‘There’s quite a few up and coming designers, not just Nigerian but African too. It’s exciting times because our sense of style has become more universally accepted. A few years ago, most people would have been forced by their parents to wear traditional clothes but nowadays it’s highly fashionable’
What do you think is holding Nigeria back from developing and pushing forward as a nation?
‘I think it’s mainly greed. Those in government don’t seem to be distributing our country’s resources effectively’
Hollywood or Nollywood?
‘Nollywood all the way!’
Who is your favourite Nigerian music artist?
‘I have two, Wiz kid and Burna boy’
What ‘afro beats’ song do you have on repeat at the moment?
‘Ijo Sona by Sona’
Do you see yourself living in Nigeria in the future?
‘Yes, most definitely!’

‘Always put Everything before God and no matter what always give thanks’
