“TIMEOUT!” THE GAME HAS CHANGED.

Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao suggests we call a “timeout” – a tool often utilized by basketball coaches to change strategy during a frenzied game, when the stakes are at their highest. This is quite a fitting analogy when framing the current International debate surrounding Africa.

“The US needs to call a timeout and treat Africans with respect,” she opined when speaking to Steve Clemons.

The suggestion appears to be that Africa is the prize asset at stake – while the U.S is facing a potential shock defeat to a buoyant China, having been in a winning position for the majority of the contest.

Former African Union diplomat Dr. Chihombori-Quao further argues that pan-African unity is the only path for the Continent to be less dependent on outside powers.
