“I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared – even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.”

AWARD WINNING creative Damilola K. Fashola prides herself in being a multi-talented creative. Disciplined in the Performing Arts, Damilola is an Actress, Author, Dancer, Playwright and a Poet. Her most prominent role is as Artistic Director of Initiative.dkf. In 2009, she founded Silhouettez In The Dark (SITD); a dance, poetry and theatre alliance whose work touches upon socio-economic issues across modern day society with a focus on inner city youth.

Growing up in Camberwell London, Damilola credits inspiration for her work to real life situations she has been through, emotions and her vivid imagination.

Growth

“I grew up on an estate in Camberwell and so what I was surrounded by is definitely what I add into my work. There aren’t that many stories that are allowed to be told apart from ones inside the estate walls or buildings. I just feel like there’s more to us and I wish to show that.”

Accomplishments

In music, her accolades include: Lead dancer for Tiwa Savage’s emotive music video Olorun mi,’ dancing professionally for the likes of English R&B Singer Mark Morrison 2013, International African headliners with Wande Coal 2012, Davido and Sean Tizzle 2013.

In Theatre, her notable stage works include Lie With Me – Talawa: TYPT:14 and Muscovado (a UK National tour) where she gained rave reviews as the female lead throughout the tour for her role – with the play winning the AFAA award in 2015. As an author and poet, Dami’s book of poetry, ideas and short stories ‘Years Gone By’  is now shelved at one of Nigeria’s most profound Arts Foundations: Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, and is internationally sold through online publishers, Blurb.

For a young ambitious creative who has reached several milestones, Dami remains passionate about her work in empowering the youth community, through youth development and mentorship. We’re excited about her progress and look forward to seeing her achieve much more!
